Melissa J Ballenger
Media: Glass, and Mixed Media
My works are the result of my desire to create a unique balance of color and texture using a variety of glass fusing techniques. The inspiration for my suspended abstracts is derived from the synchronicity in random displays of nature. " Synchronicity is a concept which holds that events are meaningful coincidences if they occur with no casual relationship yet seem to be meaningfully related," Carl Jung. For example the way seaweed is tossed by waves onto a pebbled beach, or the way trees randomly drop leaves and twigs on a path. I see this as unintentional perfection which I attempt to reflect in my abstracts. I am also enamored with the contrast created by combining indiscriminate design and deliberate creation demonstrated in my crackle bowls. The crackle technique used provides me little to no control of where the lines will form in the primary portion of the bowl while a mold of specific shape is used to create the embellishment. Other examples of this contrast might be leather and lace, or tree bark and crystal. With heat and cold, glass varies from a molten dripping substance to brittle shards. It is these delightful contrasts that draw me toward glass as my primary medium. Visit this artist's website |

Margaret Carpenter Arnett
Media: Watercolor, Pastel, and Mixed Media
Art and creativity have been a motivating force in my life ever since I can remember. I have painted throughout my adult life in conjunction with nursing, parenting, and other of life’s demands. In mid-life I combined my backgrounds in art and nursing to become an art therapist, a profession which I have loved and practiced for over thirty years. Now semi-retired, I am able to spend more time painting and creating as a primary activity. Largely inspired by nature, travel, and the environment, I try to capture the essence of what I see as well as the reality, and to create a feeling of depth and tranquility in my work I have expanded my medium of watercolor to pastels, mixed media and collage. I also like to make art using an abstract approach to painting stimulating images to emerge from the unconscious mind. These works represent the inner journey from a collective perspective, with a theme of personal growth and spiritual healing. Visit this artist's website |
AMY Carson
Media: Oil
Amy studied design and painting at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She continued her studies in design, painting, and wood-working both overseas and at the Rhode Island School of Design. Beside painting, Amy also works with reclaimed wood from the Northwest and beyond to design and create unique and amazing furniture. Visit the artist's website |
Stephen Cheng
Medium: Oil and Mixed Media
I paint popular songs and famous poems that evoke memories. Memories tell who you are and how you got here. Sing the title songs, and let the lyrics guide you down memory lane. I would encourage you to substitute my stories and make them yours. My current works have abstract backgrounds that set the mood, and representational foregrounds that tell the stories. My art studio has a panoramic view of Puget Sound and the Islands. Come tour the inspirational landscapes, feel the moody paintings, and find the paintings that match your memories. They pair well with cookies and coffee. Visit this artist's website |

Media: Mixed Media, Photography, and Acrylics
I am inspired by how layers and time build each of us. Both my photography and paintings are layered pieces. I like to repurpose discarded materials, am attracted to textures and exploring transitions in time. And I want each piece to be unique. I use multiple images, collage materials, and substrates to tell my story about the subject. I use pieces of wood I find on the beach, the inside of aluminum cans, cracked surfaces, metal leaf, or a painting. My paintings are multiple layers using mixed media. Visit the artist's website |

Medium: Pastel and Jewelry
Designing and fabricating fine jewelry has become second nature to me over the years. I work with all precious metals and colored gems of all kinds, creating one-of-a-kind pieces, most of them commissioned by customers here and abroad. I love the fact that the earth produces such marvels like silver and gold and gems in amazing colors. It makes me happy to showcase those treasures in a way that someone else can wear and enjoy and add yet another dimension with personal meaning to my one-of-a-kind pieces. I also teach jewelry making, paint originals in pastel or oils and have greeting cards printed of all my art work, including some of my jewelry pieces. I am a native of the French part of Switzerland and graduated from L’Ecole d’art appliqué of La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland as a professional goldsmith in 1979. Then, I worked as a goldsmith in Geneva Switzerland for Patek Philippe, later on at Bucherer in sales and did some custom designing, before moving to Mount Vernon, WA in 1985. Gary Giovane
Medium: Acrylics on Cedar
The events in our lives shape who we are, and ultimately influence our art. After doing archaeology at Ozette and after teaching in Neah Bay for 23 years, I developed a deep appreciation for Makah art and culture. I learned to value the functional, symbolic, and spiritual aspects of native art, and in turn, this helped to form the foundation of my own art. Consequently this has inspired me to paint on cedar for the past 40 years. Family trips to Scotland introduced me to Celtic art and the many cultural parallels encouraged me to fuse the two art traditions together. In addition, I have been strongly influenced by the culture and arts of Japan, thus adding to my personal style. Visit this artist's website |
Ron King
Medium: Stratomorphic Rendering
We see the world in layers of truthful representation, but what if our vision was opened to the shadows of the truth beyond the real? My art is the unknown just beyond the familiar. I begin with a photograph and then go deep into the image itself to free the restless phantasmagorias within the still life. Through Stratomorphic Rendering, a digital media technique that involves painstakingly working through multiple artistically enhanced layers of each image, I coax out the heart of each piece to deliver a visual experience that offers more than reality. Rick Klauber
Medium: Viewing Stones
“Looking for natural stones and interpreting them in the context of the natural and spiritual world is fulfilling. It goes beyond the initial reaction of what the stone represents. Viewing stones can provide an emotional response and these stones give me pleasure of bringing the natural world into my presence in many ways. I encourage anyone who is interested to see stones a much more than rocks!” - Rick Klauber (Rick Klauber was an artist, fisherman, and maker of smoked salmon; among many other talents. He died in a boating accident off the coast of Westport in 2018. Klauber View Stone Art continues to educate, show, sell, and spread the enjoyment of viewing stones; as Rick worked so ardently to inspire others to enjoy his art.) Visit this artist's website |
robYn Kruse
Medium: Acrylics
Robyn loves rich colors and textures and they strongly inform her mixed media and paintings. She sees her work as representational, but now and then with abstractions that shift perspectives, giving the viewer the chance to see an everyday subject in a new light. Visit this artist's website |
Linda Lenhardt
Medium: Clay
If you believe that an artist makes her mark, then my mark is texture. I am a clay artist, hand building all of my work from slabs of clay. I texture these slabs with various materials (pods, shells, fabric, stamps and tools). My organic bowls and wall hangings have always been a part of my creative journey. I have always loved jigsaw puzzles, so the process of putting my mosaic wall hangings together is fun for me. Each of my creations is unique, and I think my love of nature is incorporated in each of them. I moved from Tower Lakes, Illinois with my husband and dog in December of 2016. We live on Camano Island, WA. Being born and raised as a "flatlander", this beautiful area of the country - from the clouds to the mountains to the water - never ceases to amaze and inspire me. |
Ben Mann
Medium: Acrylic
2019 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Poster Artist Ben Mann has made a vibrant and indelible mark on the landscape of his native town of Bellingham, WA. His art practice is founded on a BFA in illustration from San Francisco's Academy of Art University, and what he has done with that diploma has been a creative path to sustainability as a full-time artist. Commercial projects include murals, menus and signage for local businesses, as well as greeting cards and calendars with local and national distribution. Fine artworks that he creates adorn the walls of local eateries, salons, bakeries and a wide variety of non-gallery environs. His commissioned work from private clientele has ranged from whimsical pet portraits to canvases that toast the rich legacy of the family home. He also plays an active role in the public elementary schools, with a 2-hour 'Mr. Acrylic' workshop that he brings into local classrooms, as a specialist via the Allied Arts Education Project. Some schools employ him with 2-week residencies that result in collaborative, permanent murals that will spark the imaginations of future students. Visit this artist's website |

Liz Moncrief
Medium: Artistic and Utilitarian Weaving
I weave as a part of our collective heritage but also to produce beautiful textiles. It’s both an art and a skill that I have pursued for 20 years and have the greatest joy from teaching both beginning weaving and advanced workshops. Its a very ‘grounding’ exercise as it combines physics, math, and creativity and forces me, willingly, to use every part of my brain. View this artist's website |
Liane Redpath
Medium: Jewelry
I arrived at jewelry making after experimenting for years with most every art medium. What continued to hold my interest was metal. Working with metal, I am given the opportunity to create art that can be seen by others daily. Wearable art jewelry that can be enjoyed by the wearer and viewer. Using torches, anvils, hammers and other tools of the jewelry trade, the metals are bent, shaped, textured & polished and my inspiration comes from architecture, cell structures and even the beach. New ideas are always waiting to become a reality. Visit this artist's website |
Karen Theusen

Inspired by nature, I use texture, color and at times imagery to evoke emotion and movement in my work. They depict a variety of subjects from local landscapes to abstract paintings. Don Wesley
Medium: Acrylic, assemblage, and objet d'art.
Birds are arguably the most accessible animal on earth. They are everywhere we are. They leverage us as much as we benefit from them. As I spend my own time learning from them, I feel compelled to tell the stories of those moments. What manifests in my work is both a translation of that wordless engagement as well as a proposal that perhaps we are more like them than we may understand fully. On top of this practical yet otherworld experience I have with them, it is also delightful to me to create a visual record of these moments and themes. An explorer may refer to them as relatable artifacts. And even in my non-avian oriented work you'll find that common intent, to create something delightfully relatable. I think the catalyst for my work is the search for connectivity and joy. Visit this artist's website |

Medium: Ceramic/Clay
The process of making sculpture is, for me, a creative journey, a quest for evoking memory and emotion which I hope will invite viewers to interact with the work and contribute their interpretations. Visit this artist's website |
Peggy Woods
Medium: Watercolor
Peggy Woods’ paintings are renowned for realism and detail, but her soulful connection to her subjects is what makes them come alive. The play of light on water create tranquil dramas that convey the poignancy of everyday coastal life. Her quiet observation and remarkable touch with watercolors invite the observer to join her vision of celebrating this beautiful corner of the world. Visit this artist's website |
